Yogurt Lady Reunion

Yogurt Lady Reunion

What a delight to find the original Yogurt Lady, Shirley Mount, who responded to my blog about her special frozen yogurt shop on the University of Texas Drag more than 30 years ago. And then an even more delightful surprise was seeing her again at the Tea Embassy last Saturday after 30 years. She brought her good friend Brigid Abdenour who played a big part in the story. We had so much fun reminiscing over a pot of tea about such an interesting time in Austin’s history. Brigid and her husband Tom (Tom Tabooley’s), who were forerunners in Austin for tabooley  and hummus ended up buying Shirley’s business and still run a successful  wholesale business and restaurant on Guadalupe near 29th Street.

We video-taped our conversation on Saturday. I hope you’ll take a look and enjoy our enthusiasm for some sweet memories.

Our unexpected reunion has inspired me to suggest that we bring more stories and people in Austin’s history together at the Tea Embassy. Tea has that quality of bringing  people together. Let’s create a video library of special times in Austin’s history. Stop by the Tea Embassy or get in touch with me if you have any stories. What ever happened to…

That’s a great story, Carol! Very interesting bit of history as well; I really liked the you tube video. I didn’t know there was a time when you couldn’t buy yogurt at the grocery store. Thanks for sharing the story.
